Flash has come along way over the past few years and has made in roads into 3D functionality. Flash knows no limitations when it comes to producing animated and amazing designs and doesn’t disappoint in the 3D genre of websites.

1. GE Web Site

Take the GE site’s 3D showpiece and Flash 10 artwork in this representation of their smart grid technology – truly awesome design. There are a number of mouth watering flash objects and 3D animations on their site.

2. Gears of War – Emergence Day

This site shows 3D at its best! The imagert, backsdrops, shading and animation are some of the best I have ever seen.

3. Get the Glass

An intriguing inspired 3D flash design - pure genius.

It’s not just the internet web design that has made huge steps in 3D; movies and games in 3 dimensions have taken the traditional 2D market by storm. Sky sports 3D is an evolutionary watching experience, but how far and how fast can the 3Dimensional era advance, in terms of quality and feel. The prices of 3D TV’s are slowly coming down in price says ’3DTvWatch’ technology reviewer and there is a number of big brand manufacturers giving package deals - it no longer costs an arm and a leg to watch in 3D in the comfort of your own living room.

3D televisions and production have some ground to make yet in providing a greater breadth of movies and 3D TV programmes for all to watch and experience, but it maybe the 3d games market that has provided the initial impetus in the television consumer market and surge in output.

Flex is ready to take a big leap forward with its next release, code-named “Hero”. The Adobe Flex SDK “Hero” preview release shows off many exciting new components and capabilities along with integrated support in Flash Builder “Burrito” and Flash Catalyst “Panini”. With the Adobe Flex SDK “Hero” release, we are introducing three major initiatives:

* Allow developers to use Flex for multiscreen application development
* Further mature the Spark architecture and component which was introduced in Flex 4
* Make incremental improvements to core Flex infrastructure to ease large application development

It is important to understand that the Adobe Flex SDK “Hero” preview release is not yet feature complete. As such, there are features slated for the “Hero” release that are not yet available in the preview release. This article aims to introduce you to the variety of new features available in the preview release of “Hero” and provide you with additional resources and documentation such that you can start building applications leveraging the “Hero” framework.
Multiscreen development with Flex SDK “Hero”

Flex development takes a big leap forward as the “Hero” release introduces multiscreen application development directly to the core Flex framework. Using Adobe Flex SDK “Hero”, you can leverage your existing Flex knowledge and skills to develop mobile applications by utilizing mobile optimized components (which are based on Spark) and utilizing application-level mobile constructs which encapsulate common mobile design patterns. To learn more about the new mobile capabilities added to the Flex framework as well as new mobile workflows added to Flash Builder, please read NJ’s article Mobile development using Flex SDK “Hero” and Flash Builder “Burrito”.

When it comes to SEO, flash sites can deliver and conform and achieve good SEO rankings, if implemented properly.

There are a myriad of rumours and myths regarding Flash and SEO. Some SEO specialists claim that a site with flash content cannot be good for SEO. This may be that they are taking the easy way out and avoiding trying to optimise flash correctly, but flash with in a site is just fine if it is done correctly, but avoid having your whole site in flash for obvious reasons.

Is Flash Content Searchable by Google etc?

It depends how you define searchable, but basically google and yahoo can presently index the text files compiled with a flash movie, aswell as the html code generated by flash. This was once upon a time true. You can now also add metadata to show off your title and description of your flash movie.

DIY SEO

Many small businesses carry out SEO on their own and some very successfully. It is relatively easy to learn the basic SEO principles but it is a lot harder to do it correctly – you need to know what works, as there are a plethora of Free SEO schemes, methods out there to buy into from a wide range of sources and so called SEO experts. But what is ethically ok to use in terms of Google and other search engines?

The libraries come complete with documentation and sample applications for you to get your teeth into, so there’s no excuse for not getting stuck in.

Incidentally, if you’re wondering why Flickr was left out of the above list it’s because Adobe already has a perfectly good ActionScript 3.0 Flickr library.
